Memorial Day weekend fun!

We had an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend and I hope yours was as well. Jerry and I decided to run down to Oklahoma to visit our daughter and her family. Well, we didn't exactly run, it is a 6 hour car ride south of Kansas City, a perfect trip for a long weekend! We stayed on their family property in western Oklahoma. The property is named Rock Mary after the historical landmark on it. The rock was a landmark for settlers on the road to California. Can you imagine their journey west, You can read more about Rock Mary here if interested.

It is hard to visualize how large the rock is, this picture might give a better perspective. The kids and hubby like to hike up it.

So peaceful and quiet out here. Packs of coyotes howled at night, lots of deer running around and other things I don't really want to know about LOL! You can close your eyes and imagine life on the prairie long ago. Especially one night when a storm blew through and the winds howled around the house, yikes!

We had a great picnic, they overfed and spoiled us as always. We enjoyed Grandparent time with the boys, isn't it great to be company once in awhile!

I can not leave out a stop on the way down- the Cherokee Trading Post. Lots of neat things inside but my big purchase was Indian Fry Bread Mix! Oh I love this, because I will make Indian Tacos from the fry bread. The 1st time I ever had one was years ago when we lived in Oklahoma, they are a treat to buy at the State Fair and other such events... delicious! I will duplicate them here at home and show a picture when we have them!

From my little bag of car travel projects, this trip I worked on a punch needle design by Country Stitches, until I ran out of black floss.

I better get more floss, this week I'll have time to work on this some more..
because guess what? We are going to pick up DAISY!!!! If you have read my past posts you will know Daisy is the kitty I chose In February from a litter of 7 adorable kittens at
House of Steward Ragdolls. Oh my gosh, I can hardly wait!

A perfect day

I hope all you Moms enjoyed a lovely day yesterday. My Mothers Day weekend was as perfect as any Mom could want. Friday night my son Jon picked me up for diner on his way home from work, after dinner he came home and watched a movie with me. I guess he felt I needed a babysitter while Hubby has been in Florida all week visiting his Dad, isn't that just too cute of him! Sunday he picked me up once more and off we went to The Plaza in Kansas City for brunch!

The weather was perfect for sitting outside, people watching and enjoying my favorite
breakfast food.. eggs benedict! My mouth is watering once again just looking at this picture, they were so delicious! Once home I enjoyed a little time in my sewing room and later FaceTime on the phone with both daughters and theirs families!

Our 1st daughter was born on Mothers Day, every 7 years her birthday falls on Mothers Day again, this year it was Friday. The most special Mothers Day gift of all don't you think! I still have this little drawing of hers, it just makes me grin! She was such a happy baby!

Daisy kitten pick up day is now 17 days away! Oh my goodness it seems like I have been waiting forever! I keep in touch daily with her antics through the breeders live steam camera and videos. She is so busy along with her 5 brothers and sisters playing! After watching videos of them swinging from tablecloths and other kitten antics... Hubby is feeling a little nervous LOL! Seriously though, we are just so ready to meet her and love her! Oh heck we have loved her since day one!

A little Sister time

Today my sister is on her way home to New York and I am trying to get back into some sort of routine once more. We had 9 days together which flew by incredibly fast we had so much fun!
Lots of laughter, brunches, shopping, dining out Kansas City style.. with some sewing in between.
I bought fabric kits and patterns by Sweetwater pattern company so we could make their cute little Easter bunny runner. Last time Darlene visited we made crazy wool pin cushions, this visit with Easter a few weeks away I thought this would be a cute little keepsake for her to take home. We had lots of fun making them!

My sister also loves to knit, she made these darling little bear ornaments for my Christmas tree.

On Friday we took a day trip to Jamesport Missouri, a small town in the heart of Amish country which has quite a few Amish specialty businesses, stores and a restaurant. We enjoyed a yummy lunch first to fuel ourselves for a little shopping!

As you can see by our loot we did a little damage. The bake store had such delicious bread, cookies and cinnamon rolls. We bought lots of goodies at the bulk food store, candy, noodles, assorted mixes and I found some unique cookie cutters I did not have. I also purchased a HUGE candle, Honeysuckle scented. Our last stop was a cute little quilt shop, all in all a very fun little day.

And now for a Daisy update, I know you have been waiting... right? Here she is.. just look at those blue eyes! I could just hug her!! She is of course still at the breeders: House of Steward ragdolls until the 1st of June. Darlene and I did a little kitty shopping one afternoon, we bought toys and a carrier! I am trying to be patient, meantime I am able to keep up with her antics (I hear she is one very busy and adventuresome little girl lol) via videos and pictures on the breeders Facebook page.
The weather here is up and down, but each day the temperatures are a little milder... Spring is definitely on it's way!

Top of the morning to you!

Happy St Patricks Day! Are you wearing your green today? To tell you the truth I can not claim any Irish ancestry, however I do go all out each year making part Irish Hubby his corned beef dinner. This picture is from last years dinner. Todays is currently boiling away in the pot!
And while dinner is boiling away I am running to a long overdue hair appointment. By the time I get home I should be a pretty lass ready to serve my dinner, and maybe I'll wear my "Kiss Me I'm Irish " button, everyone likes to be a little Irish on Saint Patricks Day right?

On my cutting table this week.... a lovely stack of fabric I will be using in my next project. Not yet sure, but I may add some wools to this and I can't wait to get started to see where this leads me!

Until then.......
May the Leprechauns be near you,
to spread luck along your way.
And may all the Irish angels,
smile upon you this Saint Patricks Day!

Little Miss Purple

March is flying by! As you may know from my last post my friend Kathy was here last week all the way from Buffalo NY. She arrived on a blizzardy minus 2 degree day and we were so anxious she would not get here! But arrive she did, suitcase loaded down with some of our favorite Buffalo foods... Andersons beef on wecks, Sahlens hot dogs, a half baked Bocce pizza and Sponge candy. I'll tell you, she spoils us greatly! We had a fun filled visit. Our sewing project was quilting the top I made for my new kitten to be. Here it is all bound and washed, I hope she likes it LOL!

Kathy and I both love tea. One morning we made scones, which were enjoyed with clotted cream
and French strawberry preserves, they were so yummy!

We did a little shopping and no trip is complete with out a stop at Andre's for pastries and chocolate!
We had BBQ at Oklahoma Joes, no visit to Kansas City is complete without our famous ribs, pulled pork or brisket. We also dined at a French restaurant in the market section of Kansas City called Le Fou Frog. Dinner was different and extremely delicious, thanks to our Son for the excellent 5 star recommendation!

We went to the movies and saw Monument Men, and so as you can see, the week flew by all too fast. Thank you Kathy for a friendship that spans many years and miles, your visit was just what the Dr ordered!
Today was a much anticipated and long awaited day for me. Meet Daisy! This is a video clip of the kitten I am adopting from www.houseofstewardragdolls. She is a blue lynx rag doll kitten. You can view all 7 kittens and enjoy watching them grow by visting her web site. This was a difficult choice, they are all so cute but little miss purple collar has tugged at my heart strings from day one. All rag doll kittens are born white. At several weeks of age they begin to blossom like flowers with colors and markings coming in fully by the age of 2. The kittens are now 4 weeks old. Daisy will be ready to leave her mommy the 1st week of June. Such a long wait for me.... but I have shopping to do for her until then!

Cozy kittens

I've been spending too much time watching Sassys kittens over at www.houseofstewardragdolls.com. They are growing right before my eyes and it is amazing having the opportunity to watch them either through video on their Facebook page or live stream on Ustream tv channel. Just look at those sweet faces, how will I ever be able to adopt just one!

I do have my heart pretty much set on a girl again though. I therefore have a stack of
girlie fabric just waiting to turn into some very cozy kitten bedding.
This is probably going to be one spoiled little kitten lol!

And maybe next week my girlfriend and I will spend some time in my sewing room. Winter is not done with us yet here in the Midwest, sewing should be a good way to stay warm and cozy. My girlfriend Kathy is flying in all the way from Buffalo New York, so she is used to cold weather and snow. Am I am so looking forward to her visit, nothing like a friend to chase the winter blues away!
