A time to reap, a time to sew

May day...may day... where has this month gone! Our month started with a quick road trip over Mothers Day weekend to Dallas to visit with our daughter and the twins. Can you believe they are 10 already!
Our daughter was born on Mothers Day, how special is that! Even though her birthday fell on Monday this year we were able to have a double celebration. We ate out lots, and when in Texas you sure want some BBQ, and I'll tell you, get yourself right on over to Hard Eight BBQ because their brisket melts in your mouth! See how happy everyone is! They are in a good food coma lol.
Mothers day was girls day! While Grandpa took the boys to see a movie, my daughter took me to a cute little painting studio. Our class was relaxing, our art student instructor was cute and fun, we had a great time together. Afterwards to returned to Grapevine for Gelatos and fudge before heading back to teach her how to knit before the boys came home. Yes, knit 1 pearl 1, I am so excited she wanted to learn how!
Our weekend was over way to fast, Texas thunderstorms and severe weather chased into Oklahoma, where the wind blew us back to Kansas, and Daisy!

Where it has rained just about every day since! The grass is green, everything is lush and I spend day after day in my sewing room. My cutting table overfloweth. I am now into 30 blocks of The Splendid Sampler quilt.
I am so busy with my own sewing, sometimes I feel I just won't be able to keep up with this.
But I guess there's always time to fit another block in, they are just so much fun! I enjoy the the worldwide group camaraderie on Instagram and Facebook, sewing has no language barriers.

I am making up little Annie individual kits for my Etsy shop, starting a new wool project and preparing some embroidery for summer road trips.

And so tomorrow begins another month. Our Oklahoma family is having an engagement party for our Son and his beautiful bride to be. Excited for the get together and so the count down continues.... 5 more months!
Happy June!

A Happy Mothers Day

Mothers Day... come and nearly gone now. This morning my son arrived with a basket full of laundry lol... AND and a beautiful bouquet of flowers. He had also stopped at Dean & Delucca on the way and brought me chocolate and 3 special dessert confections. How absolutely sweet is that, I'll tell you, I must of raised this boy right!

He and Hubby then prepared a fabulous brunch. The sun was out and shining, we sat out on the patio for the 1st time this year soaking up the warmth.
Both of my daughters called, you know how those phone calls just make your day so extra special.
After brunch we went to see "The Great Gatsby". Loved the movie, elaborate backdrop of mansions rich with opulence, beautiful costumes and characters depicting the fabulous lifestyle of a great novel come to life.

Last but not least Hubby had a special gift for me, charms for my bracelet. Two girls and 1 boy charm, 1 kitty charm for my sweet Cleo who I still miss so very much.

I am so lucky to have such a wonderful family. I hope your Mothers Day was filled with love and extra special too!

Happy Mothers Day weekend

My weekend has just started off so great! The mailman brought the fabric I have been waiting for. Already I have the pieces cut and laid out on my table, even sewn the first row, so fun!

Most of the day I have been busy preparing for Mothers Day in Lawrence. Can't go visit your student empty handed. I made a pan of his favorite enchiladas, oatmeal cookies, and grocery shopped to fill his pantry and frig. Boy he is going to be happy to see me :) And I am just so excited to have lunch with my boys tomorrow!

Mothers Day is extra special in our home. Our oldest daughter was born on Mothers Day and this year her birthday falls on Mothers Day!

I thought you would enjoy this picture Melissa, of you and your Grandma Paquin on your 1st birthday, it makes me smile.

While digging through pictures this week I found this drawing you made me. Just look at all those flowers and how about those knee dimples lol! I'll have to send this to you! Wish I could celebrate with both my girls tomorrow, I know they will both have a wonderful day made special by their little families and I'll be seeing you all soon :)

Both Jerry and I will be remembering our Mothers. This is my Mom, a young and newly married wife, how I love seeing her smile today.
Hope your Mothers Day is special, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY Melissa !! XXXOOOOO Mommy

Mothers Day On The Road

If you read my last post you know Jerry and I drove to Oklahoma City this weekend. Now that is one really boring drive, I35 all the way, 5 hours of non stop interstate. If the wind is blowing in the right direction it gets you there fast. Miles and miles of flat land, brown grass dotted with little scrubby trees. There is one scenic exception, the beautiful Flint Hills in southern Kansas. Grassy meadows as far as the eye can see, little tufts of hills, mesmerizingly beautiful and I always look forward to this part of the drive.

We rolled in our daughters driveway shortly after noon, William was peeking out the window saying "they're here, Nana & Papa are here", I imagined by the look on his excited little face. We spent the afternoon catching up then drove to Okarche Ok for a special treat, dinner at a favorite spot, Eischens. Established in 1896 it claims to be the oldest bar in Oklahoma. We noticed a sign on the door stating they would be closed on Tuesday while filming a Food TV episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. So as you can imagine this is an immensely popular spot and you better get there real early if you are hungry!

Their specialty is none other than........Fried Chicken!

As a matter of fact fried chicken is about all you can order here, besides some awesome fried okra, you wouldn't want anything else, except maybe a pitcher of red beer.

After dinner we went to our son in laws parents where Jerry & I were spending the night.

Cute little William was baptised during the Mothers Day church service. His Mommys only concern was how he might react if he got water in his eyes because he hates getting water in his eyes! She needn't have worried, Father was wonderful and William flew through his baptism like a pro. He was adorable in his little white suit and grinned from ear to ear all day, I think he knew he was pretty special!

After service we had the wonderful brunch Granma Marilyn had prepared. It was so nice to be with all of the family and friends on this special day.
Then it was time to change and hit the road and 5 hours later here we are home again, almost like we had never left!
